RESPONSIBILITIES
• Respond to SEMA members and Association staff requests for vehicle product data and information. Maintain and compile records of requests for information.
• Maintain databases of all vehicle product data provided by the OEMs and interact with SEMA’s OEM staff to facilitate data transfer.
• Develop internal logs and databases as updates of vehicle product data are received from the OEMs and vehicle scanning.
• Ensure that all data provided by the OEMs is secured, controlled, and accessed only by those authorized to do so.
• Periodically inform and update members and Association staff of the vehicle product data available.
• Develop and maintain regular reports of interest to members and Association management based on data provided by the OEMs and its usage by members.
• Help establish member and non-member usage rates and fees for vehicle technical data provided to SEMA by the OEMs.
• Assist in the development and implementation of a marketing program to promote vehicle data resources to SEMA members.
• Member interface with the marketing of the Rapid Prototyping (3D Printing) service: advertising, member contact, pricing quotations and production solutions.
• Interact with OEM staff members who are responsible for the Tech Transfer Program to promote growth, problem solving, compliance of OEM data restrictions.
• Help coordinate and assist with SEMA Measuring Sessions & vehicle scanning sessions.
• Help coordinate and assist SEMA members with product development, through the following services: CAD data distribution management, Rapid Prototyping (3D Printing), 3D Scanning, and Reverse Engineering.
• When directed by management, perform other assignments and duties as required.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE PREFERRED
• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related field
• Thorough knowledge of automotive components and their functions.
• Thorough understanding of CAD Design, Original/Aftermarket Vehicle Component(s), working with CAD data and various file formats, operating a 3D Printer, operating a 3D Scanner, managing CAD databases, and knowledge of reverse engineering software to aid product design & development.
• Interesting in studying different vehicle makes, trims, and model year differences/changes.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with excellent organizational skills.
• Good working knowledge of CAD and related software applications.
• Ability to perform CAD conversion between different formats.
• Doctoring CAD Data for better use by cleaning up or modifying files.
• Knowledge of solid and surface modeling techniques.
• Strong understanding of engineer design process.
• Computer literate with understanding of computer systems including, but not limited to the following software packages: Microsoft Word, Power Point, Microsoft Excel.
• Working knowledge and/or training in the following CAD software: Solidworks, CATIA Geomagic Design X, PolyWorks, VXelements, and/or Artec Studio.
• Ability to perform on-line data searches.
• Ability to interact with all members and Association staff in a professional and cooperative manner.
• One year of direct related experience, or completed education related to performing similar job duties with the stated necessary skills or proficiencies.
• SAE experience a plus
• Automotive enthusiast is a plus
